Martin A. Guericke, 90, of Las Vegas, NV passed away peacefully with his wife by his side at Summerlin Hospital on Friday, August 9, 2019. He was born September 7, 1928 in Clayton, SD to Ernest and Mary Guericke. Martin married Ladeen on February 26, 1950 in Clayton, SD. Martin spent two years in the US Army and was deployed to Germany from 1952 to 1954. They farmed east of Mitchell, SD until 1961, when they moved to Southern California. With an eighth-grade education, he earned his GED and then completed an Electronic Technician AA degree at night while supporting his family.
Martin was well-respected in his field because of his knack for logical thinking and problem-solving. He loved woodworking, including building personalized benches for family and friends, and could build or fix almost anything – often creating gadgets so things worked the way he wanted them to! He retired from PerkinElmer in 1992 and moved from Claremont, CA to Las Vegas, NV in 1998.
Martin is survived by his wife of 69 years, Ladeen; daughter Nancy Fodor of Las Vegas, NV; son Martin D. (Elaine) Guericke of Santa Clara, CA; brothers and sisters Donald (Charlotte) Guericke, Harold (Sharon) Guericke, Evelyn Walters, Vern (Gloria) Guericke, and Margaret (John) Bartell; grandchildren Suzanne (Andy) Hudson and Michael (Brittney) Hudson, Jr.; step grandchildren Sharon (Steve) Connolly and Larry Fodor; and five step great-grandchildren. Martin was preceded in death by his parents, brother Ernest Guericke, Jr., sister Emma Rose, son-in-law Larry S. Fodor, and his semi-bald beloved pet lovebird.
