

Mary Bredlau passed away peacefully on June 27,2026 at Nathan Adelson Hospice in LV, NV. She was born on July 2,1945 in Milbank, SD to Jerome & Avelline (Stolpman) Loehrer. She grew up on the family farm, south of Milbank where she developed a love of agriculture, animals & fixing things with her dad while helping her mom with cooking & household tasks, developing her admirable work ethic.
She went to Parochial School in Rosen, MN, then Mount St. Benedict Academy for high school and entered the convent as a Catholic nun in Crookston, MN on her 18th birthday. She taught elementary & middle school children in MN and TX during her time as a nun and after 7 years, left to finish her 4 yr degree in TX and to have children of her own. She moved to LV in 1970, met & married Harold Hyman (police & news reporter for LV Sun) had 2 children and in 1982 re-married the love of her life Kurt Bredlau (LV City Firefighter) until his passing in 2010.
She continued her education, earning a Masters Degree in Divinity and Theology and was ordained an Episcopal priest in 1995. Through her lifetime she was a member of the Association of Death Education & Counseling, Association of Professional Chaplains & the Clark County Ministerial Association. She also survived breast cancer in 2001, won numerous trophies and awards for showing Saanen and LaMancha dairy goats, the 1st female artificial inseminator of cattle and goats in NV all during the 1980’s, a LV Metro 911 dispatcher, a drafter for NV Power company and after becoming a priest, was the chaplain for Palm Mortuary, Nathan Adelson Hospice, LV Metro, LV Fire Dept, LV Coroners Ofc and doing invocations for LV City Council meetings. In her role as priest, she did countless funerals, weddings, baptisms & grief counseling, all of which fulfilled her purpose and showcased her gifts of empathy, selfless love and compassion.
She is survived by her sister Theresa (Loehrer) Wurst, brother in law Paul Wurst, 2 children Noel Hyman & Tracy (Hyman) Crofton , son in law Pete Crofton & 5 grandchildren Connor, Jacob, Hannah, Josiah & Jacob.
Visitation will be held at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church 2004 Spring Gate Ln, LV NV 89134 on Friday , July 17, 2026 from 6-8 pm. Funeral mass service will be held at Grace in the Desert Episcopal Church on Saturday July 18 at 11:00 am with private family interment at Palm Mortuary to follow.
