
Mary Ellen Beekman, 80, passed away bravely on February 12, 2026, in Las Vegas, Nevada after a courageous year-long battle with cancer. Born on April 24, 1945, in the Bronx, New York, she lived a life guided by faith, service, and dedication.
Mary Ellen began her adult life as a nun, devoting herself to spiritual service within the Catholic Church. Her deep commitment to faith remained a constant throughout her life. In a groundbreaking move, she transitioned into law enforcement and became one of the first women to serve as an officer in the New York Police Department. Her pioneering role helped open doors for future generations of women in the field.
Her career in public service continued when she joined the Federal Bureau of Investigation as a special agent. Mary Ellen served with distinction until her retirement in 2000, earning respect for her integrity and professionalism.
Outside of her professional life, Mary Ellen was known for her compassion and generosity. A devoted Catholic, she found joy in handcrafting rosary beads and participating in Bible study groups that nurtured her spiritual growth. She also had a deep affection for dogs, whose companionship brought her lasting comfort.
She is lovingly remembered by her brother Neal and sister-in-law Kathy; her sister Noreen; nieces Justine Cipriano and her husband Tom, Jessica Invitto and her husband Neil; great-nephew Aniello; and Goddaughter Mary Ellen Byrne; as well as many dear friends and family members who will forever treasure her memory. She was predeceased by her brother Charlie and niece Laura Beekman.
A Funeral Mass will be held on February 25, 2026, from 12:00 PM to 1:30 PM at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, 5830 Mesa Park Dr., Las Vegas, Nevada. Burial to follow at Palm Northwest, 6701 N Jones Blvd., Las Vegas.
Mary Ellen’s legacy of service and devotion will remain an enduring inspiration. May her memory bring comfort to those who knew and loved her.
