Mary Leona Jackson was born on January 31,1936. Her parents Leo Simons Jackson and Zula Smith Jackson were extremely excited to welcome their third child. Leona was raised on a farm in humble circumstances.
At 17 she met Earl Prows Steele and fell madly in love with him. She left high school to be a good homemaker and wife. At 18 after a difficult labor and delivery she delivered her first born. Despite her traumatic experience in childbirth she delivered 2 more children Earl Jackson Steele and Robyn Steele. From this family nucleus came a posterity of 14 grandchildren, 31 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren. She loved her family and would do anything to protect and support.
Education was important to her and she was always trying to increase her knowledge, especially in medicine. She began by being a renal dialysis technician, then an ambulance paramedic ending her acute medicine by working in the emergency room. She later became a medical insurance biller. She never gave up getting her high school diploma and graduated with her oldest son Stuart 19 years after she was married. She taught her children the value of hard work and was always coming up with chores that needed completion before any playing.
She loved the Savior Jesus Christ and was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in various church callings, always bearing a firm testimony of the Savior and his redeeming love. With her husband they served a mission to Philadelphia to teach the gospel and served a 2 year mission working in the Albuquerque, New Mexico temple.
As she continues her journey, she will serve the Lord with the same charity she possessed while here in mortality. She leaves us with a great legacy of charity, determination ,service and the importance of Gods plan of salvation so we can all be united as a family forever. She is presently at peace, filled with joy and love as she continues the Lord's work.
Mary will be laid to rest in Fillmore, Utah.
