Maryann Jeanne Soinski (née Tucci), beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, teacher, traveler, and friend, passed away on July 14, 2025, in Las Vegas, Nevada. She was 91 years old.
Born on December 31, 1933, in Mount Vernon, New York, Maryann was the daughter of proud Italian American parents who instilled in her a love of family, friends, and good food—values she carried with her throughout her life. She was a brilliant student, earning a bachelor’s degree from the University of Miami, where she was the M Club sweetheart, and a master’s degree in education from Columbia University in New York.
In 1958, while teaching in Homestead, Florida, Maryann met and married the love of her life, a dashing young Air Force captain named Gene Soinski. Together, they built a life filled with love, service, and adventure. As the consummate officer’s wife, Maryann embraced the responsibilities and joys of military life—raising her family through multiple domestic and international postings, including cherished years in Wiesbaden, Germany, and at Patrick Air Force Base in Cocoa Beach, Florida during the exciting era of the Apollo missions. She ran the nursery program at Wiesbaden Air Base and was deeply involved in supporting fellow military families, including the wives of POWs and MIAs during the Vietnam War.
After Gene’s retirement from the service, the family settled in Winter Park, Florida, where Maryann returned to her distinguished teaching career. She taught English literature, gifted courses, and the International Baccalaureate program at the middle and high school levels—primarily at Winter Park High School—leaving a lasting impression on countless students and colleagues. Her dedication, talent and love for her students earned her numerous accolades over her 30-year teaching career.
Following her retirement from teaching in 1996, Maryann channeled her love for travel into a new vocation as a travel agent specializing in cruises—a career she pursued enthusiastically until her final days. Her passion for exploring the world took her across continents, always eager to connect with new people and cultures.
In 2019, Maryann relocated to Las Vegas to be near her sons and their families. In her later years, she remained socially vibrant, making new friends and continuing to live with warmth, humor, and boundless curiosity. She remained the absolute center of her family, who cherished the time they spent with her, filling her home with love, laughter and unforgettable Italian meals around the table.
Maryann’s greatest joys were her family, her friends, her travels, and time spent around a card table. A gifted and competitive bridge player, she was known for her sharp wit, generosity of spirit, and enduring friendships.
She is survived by her two sons, Drew Soinski and Jeff Soinski; her cherished daughters-in-law, Susan and Stacey Soinski; five beloved grandchildren—Derek, Courtney, Jake, Saylor, and Sutton Soinski; two adored great-grandchildren, Cody and Blake Soinski; and her much loved granddaughter-in-law, Brittany Soinski.
She was preceded in death by her devoted husband of 51 years, Gene Soinski, who passed away in 2009.
Maryann's legacy of love, strength, and joyful living will live on through the many lives she touched. She will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
