Michael Ray McCarville, 74, of Apple Valley, California, passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026. He leaves behind a legacy of dedication, love, and cherished memories that will remain forever in the hearts of all who knew him.
Mike was born to Raymond and Phyllis McCarville on November 19, 1951. He grew up in Monrovia, California, where his early years helped shape the man he would become.
Mike was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and friend. He met his wife, Mara McCarville, on a blind date, and they spent 36 wonderful years together. He is survived by Mara; his son, Justin Brown, and his wife, Latisha; his son, Shane McCarville, and his wife, Danielle; his daughter, Katelyn McCarville; and his grandchildren, Elyse and Preston Brown, who brought him tremendous joy and pride.
Mike dedicated much of his life to helping and protecting others. He proudly spent three years in the United States Army with the Air Cavalry, where he worked as a military police officer. During his time in the Army, he earned the National Defense Service Medal, Parachutist Badge, and Good Conduct Medal.
In 1976, Mike began a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. The first two years of his career were spent at the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department. He spent four years with the Pasadena Police Department before going back to the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department, where he worked for over 23 years. Throughout his career, he held positions as a deputy in the jail system, a patrol deputy, a detective, and a sergeant. After nearly three decades of dedicated work in law enforcement, he retired as sergeant. Mike took great pride in his colleagues and in the communities he was entrusted to protect. Following his retirement, he continued working for three years as a real estate appraiser.
Outside of his career, Mike knew how to enjoy life’s simple pleasures. He loved off-roading, collecting and shooting guns, and, most of all, spending time with his family. He also had a deep love for animals and often said, “I like animals more than I like most people.”
Mike will be remembered not only for his dedication, strength, and loyalty, but also for his unmistakable gift for conversation. He always had something to say, a story to tell, or a conversation to keep going. Mike had a generous heart and gave freely to those around him, always willing to help and share whatever he could with family and friends.
Although he will be deeply missed, Mike’s life and the love he shared will continue through his family and all those fortunate enough to have known him. Rest peacefully, Mike. Your stories, your smile, your laughter, your generous heart, and your love will never be forgotten.
Services for Mike will be held at The Community Church at Jess Ranch, 11537 Apple Valley Road, Apple Valley, CA, on October 1, 2026, at 11:00 am, with a reception immediately following.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request donations be sent to the San Bernardino Sheriff’s Employee Assistance Program (SEAT) in honor of Mike McCarville.
