Dr. Michael H. Sims (Mickey) passed on May 26, 2025, to his heavenly home, leaving a legacy of deep faith in Christ. He was a man of strong character who found much joy and contentment teaching in the college of veterinary medicine at the University of Tennessee for almost 40 years. Mickey joined the faculty in 1976, teaching physiology to the first class at University of Tennessee’s new college for veterinary medicine. This was the first college of Vet medicine in the state! Students and faculty have praised his dedication to his profession. One student summed up the feelings from many comments., “Dr. Sims was always available and happy to share his wisdom and insight both in regard to veterinary medicine, and life itself.” He also served using his teaching and administrative gifts at West Park Baptist church., CAK board president, KARM renewal classes, Hope Resource Center board president, Homes Of Love, Feeding the Orphans boards, and support for many missions and missionaries, as well as serving in his neighborhood. Mickey is greatly missed by his loving family, who cherish the impact he had on their lives: WIFE of 58 years: Dianne Hicks Sims, SONS: Michael Sims (Jessalyn) John David Sims (Bobbi), GRANDCHILDREN: Taylor, Michael III, John David II, and Kiersten Sims, BROTHER: Bill Sims (Linda) Mickey was greatly influenced by his parents, Art and Alice Sims, deceased, but whose values live on! Mickey would say to us, “Keep the main thing, the main thing, Know and HOPE in God’s truths.”
