I  recently learned of the passing of Marta Tanner. I was a friend of her sister, Mildred; but met with Mildred and Myrta for lunch at a local casino after a doctor appointment in the area.  She will remain in my memory as a dear friend, forever.  My late, but sincerest condolences are extended to her family.  Rest in peace, Myrta. I’ll look you up when I get  there.

Dear Gwen, I am so, so sorry to hear of the passing of my dear friend, Myrtis. My deepest sympathies to you and the family. Sending you love and strength during this time. I often think of the friendship Myrtis and I had working with the children, enjoying going to events and  just having a great time together. I also think of Lance. We  shared the same birthday.  I just returned from a dear relatives service the day before Myrtis' service. Would love to have been there to comfort you at this time.

I remember the first time I met Mrs. Myrtis - it was the first time I attended First Baptist Church of the Lakes. I was sitting with a few other members & she walked in, took one look at me, and said, “I don’t know you, but you look like you could use a hug.” I said I would love a hug! It was the beginning of a lovely friendship. I looked forward to her hugs every week. 

She was one of the sweetest ladies I have ever known. I often told her the world would be such a better place if there were more people like her in it. 

I miss her hugs now, but I know I will see her again. Life on this earth will just not be the same without her.  

Sending prayers to Gwen & Mildred & all the family and friends I have heard so much about but haven’t had the opportunity to meet yet. May the Lord bless you and bring you comfort and peace at this most difficult time. 

Great pictures of your mom Gwen. She looked soo nice dressed up.Wow Myrt taught 37 years amazing she beat me I only had 35.I do remember what a great teacher she was. She helped me out a lot and I will be forever grateful to her! Thanks!

I just recently heard of your mother's homegoing and, although initially overcome with sadness when I consider all of the great memories I have of her, yet I am comforted by the reality that she has completed her earthly pilgrimage as in now present with the Lord!! Although I have not spoken to or seen her in person for almost 35 years or so, she has forever remained in my thoughts and prayers. I thank her for trusting me with you and treating me as a son during our season together. Her laugh and contagious smile will be engrained in my memory forever. I look forward to seeing her again at God's appointed time.  Gwen, I love you and will continue to keep you and your entire family in my prayers. May God continue to cover you with his peace and grace!

My mother visited me for Christmas in NJ and I loved how much she enjoyed seeing this Broadway show. Thank you Adrienne for being such a great friend to my mother and always being there when she needed help.

Myrtis Tanner was my dearest friend! We had an unbelievable relationship.  We were both married to the same man  at different times ofcourse.  After my divorce from Mr. Tanner we did everything together .  On weekends I would take Myrt shopping and she had such a great sense of humor we would laugh and laugh!  I will always remember our trip to visit Gwen in her new house.  We had such a wonderful time.I will miss Myrt okra dish she would make when I would visit. It was incredible good. Yes I shall miss you Myrt but I shall always remember your sweet little voice and it will stay in my heart forever.  Rest In Peace Myrtis!! Love always Adrienne Owens 

The love I have for Myrtis cannot be put into words. I am forever grateful doing her eyebrows for the past 9 years!   I will miss being greeted with her loving and kind soul. She is the sweetest women I have ever met. She truly is special. She is definitely an Angel. R. I. P. Myrtis, I love you. Love, little Diane. 

I met Miss Myrtis at the salon & knew I had to introduce her to my mom, Myrtle in white, they had so much in common.  They attended church & Bible Study together, and became good friends.  Miss Myrtis was so sweet so giving, so understanding, so wonderful, she laughed a lot too!  Love you, Kim

I miss you both so much, Mom and Herman. I'm glad you had a chance to meet one another in New Jersey. And you can now be reunited in heaven. Herman, take care of grandma!  I'm thinking of both of you always.

I was very honored to meet Mrs. Tanner (who I referred to as “Grandma Cat”) at dinner with her daughter, Gwen. She was lovely and funny, and overall just a wonderful soul. Although I only met her that one time I’ve thought of her fondly over the years since. I’m truly sad that she is gone. May she rest in perfect peace. Sending prayers and condolences to Gwen and the entire family.

She was the same way with me when I was young. She never stopped teaching others or learning herself.   Her patience is unmatched. 

This was Miss Myrtis sitting with Ann at our last October tea. My favorite memory of Miss Myrtis occurred a few years ago. Some young boys were driving a car in her apt. complex when they lost control and ended up plowing through the apartment she lived in.  Instead of getting angry or upset with them, she knew they were scared and showed them compassion.  She told  them she forgave them and invited them to go to  church with her..
