She was an elementary school teacher for 38 years, 7 in Lake Charles, Louisiana, and 31 in Richmond, California. As a teacher, she always took time to give individual attention and encouragement to each of her students. After retiring, she moved to Las Vegas. She became united with First Baptist Church of the Lakes in 2002, where she taught Sunday School and continued her love of teaching children. She attended Bible Study Fellowship, enjoyed writing poetry and essays, and expressed her creativity through art and scrapbooking.
Myrtis will be missed dearly by her daughter, Gwendolyn Ann Tanner of Westwood, New Jersey; two sisters, Berna Dean Como of DeQuincy, Louisiana and Mildred Addison of Las Vegas, Nevada; nieces and a host of relatives and friends.
A visitation for Myrtis will be held Friday, August 18, 2023 from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM at First Baptist Church of the Lakes, 9125 Spring Mountain Rd., Las Vegas, NV 89117, followed by a funeral service from 2:00 PM to 3:00 PM.
