

Nadine was born Nadine Chaverst, September 13, 1954, to Lizzie Mae and Chester Chaverst Sr., in Woodward Alabama. Nadine was the youngest of eight children. She came to Christ at a young age. She attended Woodward Elementary and graduated from Wenonah High School in 1972. She enrolled in and graduated from Lawson State Community College in 1974 with an AS Degree in Business Administration. Her oldest son Derrick Martin Chaverst was born December 31, 1974, which brought her great joy.
In May 1975 Nadine relocated to Los Angeles, California where she worked at Far West Savings and Loan from 1976 – 1984. During that time, she met John Harris, who she married in 1980. Shortly after, Jason Demetrius Harris was born September 9, 1980, and Diane Patrice Harris was born January 14, 1982. John Harris preceded her in death.
Nadine started her Federal career with the Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) in West Los Angeles in July 1990. Also, in October 1990 Nadine Harris became a faithful member of Church of the Living God, Temple #44.
At Church of the Living God, Sister Nadine Harris held the positions of Assistant Financial Secretary, Lead Sponsor of Young People’s Progressive Union (YPPU), District YPPU President (4 years), and President of the Women’s Work Auxiliary (3 years).
She was very active with Blacks In Government (BIG) organization at the VA. She held the positions of Vice President of Membership, Treasurer and Vice Treasurer. She also received many awards at the VA for customer service. Most notably, in 2009 Nadine was awarded Outstanding Service and Dedication as Special Emphasis Program Manager.
In 2012 Nadine relocated to Nevada to work at the VA Medical Center in North Las Vegas. She also became a full-time member of New Creation Outreach Ministries (NCOM) on October 21, 2012. NCOM was her church home where she continued her devotion to service and worship. Nadine Harris retired from the VA after 28 years on November 30, 2018.
Nadine is survived by her children; Derrick, Jason, and Diane, as well as her grandchildren Brenndan, Nyla, Jayshawn, Tye and Faye, nieces, nephews, and a host of other relatives and friends who will miss her dearly.
