Obituary from the family:
Nan Young Lee, known to many that loved her as “Halmony.” Halmony was called home on November 24th, 2021, at age 90.
Nan Young Lee was born on August 16th, 1931 in South Korea.
A little about her upbringing: Nan Young Lee was the oldest child. She experienced Japanese colonization up until she was 14 years old and lived through the Korean War which divided her country into two. In Korea, Halmony was a schoolteacher, teaching Korean grade school and Japanese language studies. In 1953, at age 22, Nan Young Lee married Soon-Pyoeng Hong. They had four children together: In-Pyo Hong (son, alive and residing in Incheon, Korea), Kyung-Pyo Hong (son, deceased at 11 years old due to leukemia,) unknown child that died at child birth, and Unkyong Hong (daughter, deceased in 2006.) Sadly, Halmony lost her husband when her children were very young, her husband, Soon-Pyeong Hong was only 38 years old at the time of his death. Halmony never remarried, as she told Irene (her grand daughter) that her husband was the best husband, and men are a headache. She also tragically lost two of four children prior to immigrating to the US in 1993. It was her grandchildren who brought her to the US, as Halmony immigrated to help her daughter, Unkyong Hong Manalo, raise her young kids (Phillip and Irene). She remained in the US since then, up until her recent passing.
Nan Young Lee was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, she is survived by her immediate family in Incheon, Korea: Son: In-Pyo Hong, daugher in law: Geun-Sun Yang, grandson: Seong-Min Hong, grandson’s wife: Seon-Hee Kim, and grand daughter: Seong-Ah Hong, her immediate family in the US: grandson: Phillip Manalo and his wife “M”, and granddaughter: Irene Manalo and her fiancé Matthew Fisher. She is also survived by the extended Manalo/Vicuna clan here in Las Vegas (her in laws through her daughter, Unkyong Hong Manalo’s marriage), along with numerous dear friends from her church community at Full Gospel Church.
Some of Halmony’s favorite things to do included: going to church and senior citizen school. She was a devoted member of Full Gospel Church for over 20 years. She also enjoyed crocheting hats, scarves, house slippers, and decorative potholders. She loved dancing and doing exercises that she learned at church. Halmony enjoyed karaoke, and winning prizes for her singing talents at church. She had a great sense of humor – she was always laughing and making jokes with her family and friends. Halmony was a bright light to those she loved and loved her the same. She will be sorely missed.
