Dr. Octavio “Tabio” T. Faylona went peacefully back to his Creator, at the golden age of 91, on July 12, 2020, in Las Vegas, Nevada. He was born on June 12, 1929, in Alaminos, Laguna, the Philippines, to Dr. Macario T. Faylona, and Ms. Benita D. Tanzuaco. He was the eldest of three brothers that include Dr. Pompeyo T. Faylona and Dr. Renato T. Faylona. He graduated at the top of his high school class and went on to obtain his medical degree at the University of Santo Tomas in Manila. He went back to his hometown of Alaminos after graduation, and became the town’s doctor. On December 1, 1957, he married Dr. Editha F. Averion, a dentist from the same town. They had two children, Dr. Edgardo A. Faylona, and Dr. Maria Pilar A. Faylona. In January 1975, at the mature age of 44, he decided to leave his medical practice and his beloved patients, to migrate to the United States, not so much as to earn a more lucrative income, but to pave the way for his children to live the American dream. That wish was fulfilled with both his children achieving very successful medical practices in Las Vegas, and continuing the family tradition of caring and healing for the sick. In November of 1995, both Tabio and Edith finally moved to Las Vegas from Alaminos to be with their children, and to subsequently spend 25 very happy years together as a family again.
Dr. Tabio Faylona was very well respected, and more importantly much loved by the people of his town of Alaminos, most of whom he cared for, from childhood to adulthood, and sometimes until their demise. For them, he was not only their doctor, but the person they turned to for advice and who can humor them with his jokes and stories, the guy they played basketball with every afternoon, the buddy they can have a drink with, their friend. He was an institution in his town, but he decided to lead a very quiet life when he moved to Las Vegas, content to share life with his wife, and proudly watch his children carry on the family tradition of healing and caring. He was very healthy till the end, still driving around and travelling. Until depression set in as a result of the strict quarantine brought on by the Covid pandemic. That was when he lost interest in this world and wished to be with his family and friends who have moved on to a happier place. His wish was granted knowing that someday, we will also be joining him and we shall be one as a family again.
Dr. Octavio T. Faylona is survived by his beloved wife of 62 years, Dr. Editha A. Faylona, and their two children, Dr. Edgardo A. Faylona with his wife Dr. Lydia B. Estanislao, and Dr. Maria Pilar A. Faylona with her husband Dr. Murray Rosenberg. His final resting place will be in Henderson, Nevada.
