Peter Mangay-Ayam Galanto, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, of Las Vegas, Nevada, passed away on September 14, 2020, at home with his family at his side. He was 87 years old. His parents were the late Santos Galanto and Consolacion Maria Mangay-Ayam.
Peter left his loving wife of 47 years, Betty Lamorena Galanto, his daughter & son-in-law Jeanette Galanto-Masloff and Jerry Masloff, his son & daughter-in-law Arnold Galanto and Liszet Corchado Galanto, his 7 beloved grandchildren, Kaleb Galanto, Jasmine Masloff, Jason Masloff, Micah Galanto, Jordan Masloff, Jayden Masloff, Natalia Galanto, and many nieces, nephews and close relatives. All of those, of which he loved very much and deeply touched.
Peter has now joined all his brothers and sisters in heaven, Pascual Galanto, Jose Asterio Galanto, Melquiades Galanto, Benito Galanto, Florentina Galanto Valdez, Espiritu Galanto, Rebecca Galanto del Rosario and Osmundo Mangay-Ayam.
Peter, born as Pedro Mangay-Ayam Galanto, also known as Pedring, was born on November 27, 1932 in Oaig Daya, Candon, Ilocos Sur, Philippines. He graduated from high school and attended college for 2 years in the Philippines. He then migrated to the United States, specifically to Hawaii on May 16, 1969, along with his sister Florentina "Tinang" Galanto Valdez. He went back home to the Philippines to marry the love of his life, Betty on May 27, 1973. Both Peter & Betty then made a home in Honolulu, Hawaii for 18 years where Peter worked as a taxi driver at SIDA taxi for many years, along side his nephews, Herman, Antonio and Rodelio Galanto. He then moved with his wife and their 2 children to Las Vegas, Nevada on July 23, 1991, where he retired and took care of his children, took his wife to and from work & took care of the house.
Peter's favorite hobbies he loved to do were gardening, going to the casino, fixing things around the house and on his cars; watching the news on television; reading the newspaper, magazine articles and books; watching movies, especially action, war & James Bond; singing, dancing, listening to music and playing his guitar; and traveling. Most importantly he loved to be around & spending quality time with his family, especially with his grandchildren. He was a very caring, loving, quiet, and observant person. He would speak his mind when necessary & listen with his full attention when you needed someone to talk to.
Peter was an active member of the Candonian Club.
Wake/Viewing services will be held on October 28, 2020 Wednesday from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm.
Celebration of life will be held on October 29, 2020 Thursday from 1:30 pm to 3:30 pm.
Both services will be held at Palm Mortuary Northwest, 6701 N. Jones Blvd., Las Vegas, Nevada 89131
