It is with deep love and gratitude for a life well lived that we announce the passing of our beloved family member Peter Joffre, who passed peacefully on April 18 at the age of 93 at Nathan Adelson Hospice’s Tenaya facility.
Born in 1933 in Paterson, New Jersey, to Cuban and Puerto Rican parents, he carried his rich cultural heritage with pride throughout his life. As a young man, he answered the call to serve his country during the Korean War, serving honorably between 1950 and 1953.
Following his military service, he made his way to New York City, where he worked as a Checker taxi driver—an experience that reflected his independent spirit and love of connecting with people from all walks of life. He later relocated to Florida, where he continued his work as a private driver before beginning a long and steady career with the City of Miami’s Sanitation Department, from which he eventually retired.
In his later years, he moved to Las Vegas to be closer to his best friend, beginning a new and meaningful chapter of life. There, he met his devoted partner and best friend of more than 20 years, Marlene Gamburg. Together, they built a loving home, and he embraced a special role as the legal guardian and cherished “Grandpa” to Marlene’s granddaughter, Star Nevada.
He will be remembered by all who knew him as a kind, generous soul—someone who was always ready to lend a helping hand. His warmth, easy humor, and playful spirit left a lasting impression on family, friends, and everyone fortunate enough to cross his path. He had a gift for making people smile and a heart that made others feel cared for and seen.
His legacy is one of kindness, resilience, and love—a life defined not only by the years he lived, but by the countless lives he touched.
He will be deeply missed and forever remembered.
A Committal Service will be held at Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veterans Mem, Boulder City, NV 89005, US, on May 15, 2026, at 12:00 pm.
