

Rafael F. "Charlie" Diaz, 55, of Las Vegas, found his peace July 22, 2014. He was born Nov. 29, 1958, born to Josefa and Montelongo Diaz, in Havana, Cuba. They were the first few Cubans to arrive here in Las Vegas in 1968, and open up a Cuban restaurant called La Familia down on Fremont St. Rafael was the middle son of two siblings, Maria Diaz and Ricardo Diaz. He married his wife, Monta White, May 11, 1979. He was a cement mason by trade for 21 years and loved every minute of it. Rafael has been reunited in passing with his beloved father; and little brother. He was survived by his wonderful and loving wife, of 35 years, Monta Diaz; and their three children, Brian, Charlene and Melissa Diaz. Rafael, also known "Papa," was survived by three grandchildren, Gabriella Diaz Evan Garcia and Elissa Diaz; as well as countless loving nieces, nephews and cousins. Rafael will always be remembered and missed by everyone that knew him, however we'll find comfort in knowing that he is with the Lord. Viewing will be 6-9 p.m. Friday, Aug. 1. Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, Aug. 2, both at Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial following, at Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
