

at the Washington Group Home. To family and friends, he was also known as Ray Ray or Pops.
Ray was born in Denver, Colorado on October 6, 1955 to William Ray Vars and Mary Ann Gebhard.
He was married twice, in 1975 to Paula Rients, and Joyce Treat Vars in 1985.
Ray was very social individual and was always drawn to jobs that allowed him enjoy the people around
him. He was a branch manager for George Sanders plumbing supply warehouse in Montrose, Colorado until 2002. In 2002 he and Joyce headed out on an adventure to Las Vegas, Nevada. In Las Vegas Ray became a Black Jack and Craps dealer. He worked for Station Casinos, starting at the Fiesta. He then became one of the original employees at Stations Red Rock Resort, where he stayed until his retirement in 2022.
Ray loved bowling, golf, science fiction, fantasy, and most of all monster movies. He loved debating most any subject, not caring which side he took. He had a wonderful sense of humor and gentle manner. He would share many stories with his family and friends. Many times it was said he should have been a radio talk show host.
Ray is survived by his mother, Mary Ann Stone, 2 sisters, Linda (who he called Lindy or Na) and husband Daryl, and Mary Therese (who he called TaTa), 3 brothers, Joseph (Joe/Joey) and wife Jennifer, Ray Tyler (RT) and wife Teggin, and Richard (Little Ricky). He is predeceased by his brother Richard (Big Rick), sister Lorrie, and step-father Ray Tyler Stone (Bud).
He is also survived by his children Troy and Shawn, his step-children Lance, Leanne, and Shane, fifteen grandchildren, and three great grandchildren. And he is survived by his VERY good friend Amy Koerntgen.
Ray’s life was one of joy and struggle. He will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
