Reed was born on April 7, 1948 to John Eiso Van Boerum and Alta Virginia Gerstner Van Boerum
in Ogden, Utah.
Reed graduated from Ogden High School in 1966. He served as a missionary for The Church Of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in the South East Asia Mission. He served in Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan and the Philippines speaking the Mandarin Chinese language.
Reed attended Weber State College on a music scholarship. He later transferred to The University of Utah where he graduated with a Bachelors in Accounting. He later received a Masters in Business from the University of Phoenix.
Reed loved music, he started playing the trumpet in 8th grade and played and preformed in several musical groups. He also played the guitar. Reed sang for many years in the Saints Unified Voices choir traveling throughout The United States and England. While he was a member of the choir, they won a Grammy award for Best Gospel Album.
As a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, he taught seminary, gospel doctrine, served in scouting, young men's, in Bishoprics and on the Stake High Council. Reed loved the temple and served many years as an ordinance worker in the Las Vegas, Nevada Temple.
He loved sports, and coaching his children’s teams. He played golf and was an avid fans of the Utah Utes.
Reed married Connie Jan Coons on December 12, 1989. They were later sealed in the Las Vegas, Nevada Temple, February 16, 1991. Combining their families, together they have seven children.
Reed is survived by his wife, Jan Van Boerum. Children, Robert Van Boerum (Sarah), Rachael Romershauser, Rebekah Wilson (Nick), McCall Fish (Marc) Kacee Henriksen (Joshua) Curt Robertson (Julia) Erik Robertson (Sydney ), 21 grand children, 1 great grand child. Brothers, Howard Van Boerum (Joanne) Ross Van Boerum (Suzanne) Reed was proceeded in death by his parents, John and Alta Van Boerum and Sister, Judy Parke.
The family is extremely grateful for the wonderful care he received from Plaxia Care as well as the care given by Nevada Hospice Care.
