
RICHARD W. GAMMON, 80, a longtime resident of Las Vegas, passed away at home on Wednesday, June 18, 2014 surrounded by his family. He was born on April 6, 1934 in Provo, Utah to Leland and Lola Gammon. He is preceded in death by his parents, sister, Ruth Smith and Brother Wayne Gammon. He grew up in Provo, Utah where he met and married his high school sweetheart, Betty Rae Mahanna, 62 years ago. After graduation, he served in the United States Air Force. Upon his honorable discharge as a Staff Sergeant, he began a lengthy career as a firefighter with the Las Vegas Fire Department in 1963, retiring as the Deputy Fire Chief after 30 years of service. He lived a life full of service to his country, community and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. He is survived by his wife, Betty, son, Greg Gammon (Debbie), and daughters, Denise Allen (John), Greta Smith (Perry), and Karen Welsh (Robert), sixteen grandchildren, fourteen great-grandchildren, sisters, Gayle Mahoney and Naomi Bird and brother, Russell Gammon. Visitation will be from 5-7 pm on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at Palm Mortuary, 1600 South Jones, 89146 with funeral services following on Monday, June 23, 2014 at 11:00 at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, 2245 Lindell Road, 89146. Burial will be immediately following at the Southern Nevada Veteran’s Memorial Cemetery in Boulder City, Nevada.
