Richard Nobuo Takehara (affectionately known as "Pork Chop") passed away March 11, 2011, his 81st birthday. He is survived by his beloved wife, of 55 years, Ethel; his son, Greg of Maplewood, N.J.; his brother, Toshio (Betty) of Wahiawa, Hawaii; and his sister, Elaine Kawabata (George) of Mission Viejo, Calif.; as well as many adoring nieces and nephews. Born in Naalehu, Hawaii, and raised on the island of Oahu, Richard was a veteran of the Korean War. He received an education via the GI Bill in Chicago, where he met his bride Ethel Lee, formerly of Honolulu. They resided in Chicago and the suburb of Des Plaines for 42 years before retiring to Las Vegas in 1995. Richard enjoyed bowling and golf and rarely encountered a person he didn't enjoy speaking to. Consequently, he will be missed by many. A memorial service will be from 11:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m. Monday, March 21, at the Hospitality Center, adjacent to (just south of) Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones, Las Vegas, NV 89145. Lunch will be served. Casual/Aloha attire please.
