Robert “Billy” Carson was born on February 24, 1947, in Tallulah, Louisiana, to Mary and Eugene Carson Sr. In 1966, he moved to Las Vegas, a city he would call home for the rest of his life. Shortly after relocating, he was drafted into the U.S. Army and served with honor in the Vietnam War as a combat medic from 1966 to 1968, providing lifesaving care to fellow soldiers under the most difficult conditions.
After returning home in 1968, Billy worked a variety of jobs from the Nevada Test Site to the historic Moulin Rouge before finding his calling in construction. He became a cement mason, helping lay the foundation of a growing Las Vegas with quiet strength, skill, and unwavering dedication. He retired in 2009 after a long and honorable career.
On June 29, 1996, following years of growing together, Billy married the love of his life, Terri. Together they built a life rooted in devotion, laughter, and family.
Billy loved to cook and could often be found in the kitchen preparing meals for loved ones. He also had a gift for working with his hands and enjoyed building, fixing, or creating just about anything—a true craftsman at heart.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his sister, Parrisinne “Baby Ray” Townsend; and his brothers, Eugene, Percy, and James.
He is survived by his wife, Terri; his children, Hope, Jason (Nicci), and Nyvina (D’Angelo); his sister, Katie Mae; seven grandchildren, a host of in-laws, nephews and nieces, and friends. Billy’s legacy of love, humility, and service will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
“Whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant… just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve.”
