Robert James Ditmar Sr, age 81, a long-time resident of the Las Vegas area, went home to be with Jesus on August 10th, 2022 at his home in Las Vegas, NV. He was the last living sibling out of seven children that his mother gave birth to.
He was born June 8th, 1941 in Seattle, Washington, to Pauline Lyons and Henry Ditmar. Robert’s step dad was in the military. So, in Robert’s words, he became a military brat. He lived in many different cities and went to many different schools during this time. He also spent a year in Taiwan during his teenage years, and learned their language fluently.
Robert married his first wife at the young age of 18 and fathered two children, Robert Ditmar Jr and Cheryl Ditmar.Robert later met the love of his life at age 27, and married Lola Lingo just three months later on August 27th, 1968, at the Wee Kirk Wedding Chapel, in Las Vegas. Today is their 54th wedding anniversary. Early in their marriage, Robert and Lola traveled with a Christian tent ministry before settling down and having their two children, Shaun Ditmar and Christi Ditmar. Robert and Lola did church ministry together for many years to include leading worship and Robert pastored our church for a time. They even ran a Christian Bible on cassette mail order business out of the house for several years.
Robert worked in the construction industry for 35 years building everything from homes to hotels and casinos on the Las Vegas strip. He loved showing us his finished work in some of the casinos as he would give us family tours. We were always so proud of his excellent craftsmanship. He was truly amazing and took pride in his work. He later worked for the Clark County School District for 10 years and retired in 2013.
Robert had a deep love and passion for God, for his wife Lola and for his family. He loved telling jokes and making people laugh, although most of the time he could barely get to the punchline because he was laughing so hard, which just made us laugh all the more. His laughter was contagious. He loved taking care of his beautiful plants and flowers. He was so tough and strong yet so loving and gentle. Robert was a true family man, peace maker and had a genuine love for others.
Robert is survived by his wife, Lola; his sons, Robert Jr. and Shaun; his daughters, Cheryl and Christi; several grandchildren and great grandchildren. He found great joy in his family.
