Robert Stanley “Bob” Pytel, age 78, of Las Vegas, Nevada passed away on Monday, May 24, 2021. Robert was born August 12, 1942 in Manhattan, NY to Stanley and Josephine Pytel, and older brother to Barbara Pytel. He married Herta Krauland May 28, 1966 in New York after meeting at Edward and Hilda Mentuck’s wedding. Bob graduated Our Lady of Good Counsel Roman Catholic Church grammar school, where he served as a choir boy, and Cardinal Hayes High School in NY, NY. He resided in Manhattan before living in Queens, NY and Massapequa, NY, and retiring to Las Vegas, NV in 1994.
Bob worked for the New York City Police Department for 23 years, retiring in 1986. After retirement, he worked in private security for MacAndrews & Forbes in NY, NY and as a gym aide at Bonner Elementary School in Las Vegas, NV which he truly enjoyed. In addition to volunteering as a coach at North Massapequa Little League, he loved horse racing and spending time at Belmont Park Racetrack and Saratoga Racetrack, coupling trips to Saratoga with family vacations at the Mohican Resort and Rocking Horse Ranch in Lake George, NY.
He always jokingly loved spaghetti, often reciting the Anthony! Anthony! It’s Prince Spaghetti Day…but spaghetti was no joking matter in this house: from the sounds of slurping, to the fights about who got stuck sitting next to him, to having to wash the curtains, spaghetti was always a fun topic with Bob.
Bob is survived by his wife of 55 years Herta Pytel; son Christopher Pytel and daughter-in-law Patricia, daughter Robyn Amsterdam and son-in-law Richard; grandchildren Caitlyn Pytel, Anthony Amsterdam, Paige Pytel, and Joseph Amsterdam; sister Barbara Pytel and nephew Steven Kassof; cousins Susan and Bill Flood, Allison and Anthony Sekulo, James and Patricia Bokor, Barbara Wojenik, and John Wojenik; and his cockatiel Happy.
Visitation will be held on Sunday May 30, 2021 from 2:00 – 6:00 at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas NV 89129 and a mass will be held on Tuesday June 1, 2021 at 12:30 at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Church, 1811 Pueblo Vista Drive, Las Vegas NV 89128. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude’s at https://www.stjude.org/donate/donate-to-st-jude.html in Robert’s memory.
Bob was a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend who enjoyed his family and will be truly missed.
