
Rod F. Reber, of Las Vegas, a loving husband and father, passed away Aug. 5, 2013, at age 78. According to his family, his passing was peaceful and he was surrounded by loved ones at home. Born June 27, 1935, in Santa Clara, Utah, to Frank and Virginia Reber, the family moved to Las Vegas in 1941, where Rod spent his youth in the Huntridge neighborhood. Rod attended Las Vegas High School and graduated in 1953. He was all-state in basketball and was part of the state championship team his senior year. He went on to play freshman basketball at the University of Arizona where he was a member of the Sigma Alpha Epsilon fraternity and transferred to the University of Nevada, Reno to complete his education. Beginning his career in the sales department of the Las Vegas Review-Journal, Rod went on to form Kelly Reber Advertising in 1962 and handled accounts in Las Vegas and Atlantic City. Rod was active in his community as a member of the Jaycees and the Las Vegas Press Club. He also was politically active at the local and state level, and a member of the young democrats. One of Rod's proudest moments was when he met President John F. Kennedy in the White House rose garden. Rod had a love and passion for traveling the world, watching the Rebels and attending major sporting events like the Super Bowl, Rose Bowl and the NCAA Final Four. In 1983, Rod married Linda Black. Rod's friends remember him for his one-of-a-kind personality, sense of humor, charm and loving heart. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Peggy Bollig-Reber; and his sister, Colleen Gregory. He is survived by his wife, Linda; her daughter, Kira, and children, Amanda and Trevor; his daughter, Patti Leeming, her husband, Jim, and their children, Connor and Ally; and his son, Rod, his wife, Darby, and their son, Finn. Scripture services will be at 6 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 10, at Christ the King Catholic Community of Las Vegas, 4925 S. Torrey Pines Drive. The family has requested that, in lieu of flowers, contributions be made to Comprehensive Cancer Centers and Nathan Adelson Hospice
