Ron was born on August 5th 1952 to Italian immigrant parents, Joseph and Margaret Bonifatto, in the neighborhood of Bedford- Stuyvesant in the borough of Brooklyn, New York. He was their fourth son, coming after Joseph Jr. (Snookie-deceased), Richard (Richie-deceased) and Alan (surviving). He was the older brother of Karen (surviving) and Valorie (surviving). After having his fill of New York at an early age, he moved to Las Vegas when he was 20 years old and most of his family and friends followed his lead. His 46-year career in the casino industry included the historic properties of the 4 Queens, Aladdin, Tropicana, and Frontier. He opened the Mirage in 1989 and opened the Aria in 2009, where he worked up until his passing. A handyman at heart, Ron built almost every home he lived in here in Las Vegas, and what he didn’t build he “improved.” He is survived by his wife of 16 years Robin Hopkins-Koumis; his three sons: Joseph, Anthony, and Nicholas; his stepdaughter Megan; his two grandchildren Luca and Briana, along with his two sisters, one brother, numerous nieces, nephews, and extended family. He loved to go on hunting trips with his sons, and found great joy in watching is grandchildren grow. He was a classic “tough guy,” but he had a soft heart underneath it all. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date this spring/summer, when we can all gather in remembrance of this great man. Please contact Palm Mortuary on North Jones for more details.
