Ronald Louis Ramsey of Las Vegas, NV passed away on December 22, 2025. Born on September 5, 1953 in Kansas City, MO, Ron was the son of James T. and Laura L. Ramsey and graduated from Lee’s Summit High School. He is remembered by friends and family as an incredibly generous and selfless person, the kind of man who would volunteer for the most daunting tasks and who would always make himself available to help a friend in need.
Ron was a proud veteran of the United States Army. Ron may have been inspired by his father and uncle to join the armed services, in particular the heroic medic Corporal Robert L. Ramsey who helped rescue hundreds of prisoners of war from a camp near Cabanatuan in the Philippines in WWII. Ron enlisted with the Army in August 1972 and served through August 1975. He enlisted in the Army Reserves in August 1975 and proudly served until February 2021 where he retired as Staff Sergeant. He was an M16 Sniper Sharpshooter. Ron earned his combat spurs in Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm with his medical detachment unit, the 321st 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment. Ron was awarded the National Defense Service Medal with the bronze star, the Army Reserve Component Achievement Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, and the Senior Aircraft Crewman Badge.
Ron attended college to study Construction Management at Utah Valley State College and later went on to become a Journeyman Carpenter. He was a devoted member of Carpenters Local #1977 for 26 years and 9 months, and retired in 2013. Ron continued his staunch advocacy for his fellow carpenters by bannering for the union.
Ron is survived by his sister, Yvonne R. Crawford, his niece Jennifer Crawford, and her husband, Nabal; his nephew, Andrew Crawford, and his wife, Joyce; and his four grand-niblings: Rory, Chase, Nolan, and Faye. He is predeceased by his brothers, Dean Earl Ramsey and Noel Eugene Ramsey.
The committal service and military funeral honors will be held at the Utah Veterans Cemetery and Memorial Park in Bluffdale, Utah on March 27, 2026 at 11am. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to your local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post.
