Born February 13, 1928, in Ashtabula, Ohio to Hazel Ariel McKean Ware and Richard ‘Dick’ Ware.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha Ware in 2016; His two sons, Ronald Kenneth Ware, Jr (‘Rick’) in 2019 and David Brian Ware in 2020 and Barbara Ware (David) in 2013; His only sibling, sister Ruthann in 2014, his parents, Hazel in 1986 and Richard in 1977 and Cousin Howard ‘Whimp’ McKean in 2016.
Ron graduated from Ashtabula High School in 1946. He went on to become the manager at the A&P grocery store after starting as a clerk there. That is where he met the love of his life, Martha Voorhies. They were married in 1949 at the home of her parents in Indianapolis, Indiana. They were blessed with three boys, David, Ronald Jr ‘Rick’ and Scott.
Together they purchased the Happy Golden Donuts & Coffee shop in Ashtabula Ohio. In 1972 they sold the donut shop and moved to Colorado where Ron worked at Eastman Kodak Company as a machine mechanic. Ron was sent to Xiamen China to oversee and train mechanics in the Kodak China division. Ron and Martha were there for nine months and enjoyed traveling to Thailand, Korea and throughout China. Two of their highlights were the Great Wall of China and Tiananmen Square, they respected their culture and brought many items back to the US with them that adorned their home and garden.
Ron retired from Eastman Kodak Company in 1988. Ron and Martha lived part time in Colorado and Nevada for several years. They finally decided to live full time in Nevada in 1999.
Ron was an avid bowler, golfer and bingo aficionado! He also like woodworking and he built their first home by hand, from the ground up. He was a member and supporter of the Republican party. The many donations to St Jude’s, Boys and Girl Club, DAV, police/first responder support organizations and others helped many beyond our group of family and friends.
He was affectionately known as Ron, Ronnie, the Ronz, Vegas Ron and GG Pa (great grandpa).
Being extremely meticulous, Ron kept track of every detail, every penny spent and earned, every photo album was chronologically accurate, all medical appointments and expenses; his calendar was filled with details of daily activities, phone calls, etc., and his toolbox and workshop were in immaculate condition.
In Ron’s own words, he described his life:
“I had a great childhood even though it was during the Great Depression. It was typical for most of us during that time-period and the beginning of WWII. The proudest family moments were having a super wife and three sons to be proud of. My civic accomplishments were that I tried to be a good citizen and not be a burden on society.” He notes that his favorite songs are Rhapsody in Blue and Stardust. His favorite color is blue. Favorite quote: ‘Good times, bad times…. Remember the good!’
He is survived by his youngest son, Scott Ware and his wife, Dee Ann Ware; Wendy (Rick) Ware; Four Grandchildren, Melanie Ware, Ronald Kenneth Ware III (‘Nathan’) and his wife Denise; Chad Ware and his wife Leslie; Cheala Gifford and her husband Andy; Ten Great Grandchildren; Trevor, Tiara, Rance, Tatum, Rylei, Connor, Braydon, Josiah, Callen and Lemon Ann; His brother in law, William Voorhies and his wife Barbara; Nieces and Nephews, Mark, Robin, Becky and their families; Nephew Rusty McKean and close friend Bud Pallutch and his wife, Martha; any many friends.

It’s difficult to imagine him not being around anymore. Watching golf, playing bingo and the many political discussions we had, will never be the same without you. Dad lived a long, fruitful life. Striving to always do the right thing. He set the bar pretty high for all of us to follow. I’ll miss him dearly, but I know this is how life goes. So as we gather here today to remember and celebrate his life, let us bid him farewell as we mourn the loss of a lively, dignified soul. A soul that brought laughter and fulfillment to many, and whose legacy will live on forever.
