

Stephen John Kurr, Jr. (Steve), 84, passed away Dec. 18, 2017, in Las Vegas. Steve was born in New Orleans Aug. 24, 1933, to Stephen and Irma (Baye) Kurr. The Kurr family moved to Rockville, Conn., where Steve lived throughout his childhood. Steve was a 62-year resident of Las Vegas, arriving here after serving in the U.S. Marines during the Korean War. He started his casino gaming career as a dealer at the Golden Nugget, eventually retiring from the Tropicana Hotel after dealing at such casinos as the Sahara, Riviera, and the Frontier. Steve had many interests during the course of his life, including rock climbing and rappelling with his son, Stephan, an avid climber. In 1966, Steve acquired his private pilot’s license and flew small aircraft for many years. Steve also was a 49-year member of the Las Vegas Elks club. Although excelling in several interests, Steve’s passion was marathon running and competing in triathlons. Steve competed in many prestigious events, such as the Honolulu Marathon and the New York City Marathon. He was preceded in death by his parents and sister, Irma Lee (Robert). Steve is survived by his wife, Gay; son, Stephan; and daughter-in-law, Eunsil Kurr. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to a favorite charity.
