

Steven Lawrence Slagle was known as many things to many people. He was a loved one, a friend, and someone special. To family and friends who knew him best, Steven will be remembered as a very exceptional person.
Steven was born on July 29, 1951 at Pomona Valley Community Hospital in Pomona, California.
As a young boy, Steven had a number of interests. Like most children, he enjoyed playing and making up games. He was curious about the world around him and was often eager to explore it. He was a member of the Cub Scouts which influenced him in later years. Steven's memorable achievements included winning various awards racing motorcycles along with his younger brother John. However, to Steven, the most fun to be had was simply playing and spending time with his family and friends.
A typical teenager, Steven had a fairly happy high school experience, making that critical transition from adolescence to adulthood. He graduated from Western High School in 1970. He enjoyed some classes more than others, having favorite subjects and teachers.
Steven enjoyed his college years, which may have been a challenge with all of the academics, responsibilities, and the sudden freedom that accompanied them, but Steven was able to manage the balancing act. He had two years in college for Hotel Management.
Always considered a “good” friend to those he knew, Steven enjoyed a broad group of acquaintances and several very close friends during his lifetime. Some of his best friends were Stephen Sphar; Allan Thomas; Scott Kallsen; Craig and Sally Miller. Through Scouting he met Tom and Joan Rainford.
On April 17, 1976 Steven exchanged wedding vows with Charlotte Jean Gilliam at First Presbyterian Church of Las Vegas, Nevada. Empathic and loyal, Steven was committed to making his new family happy.
Steven worked hard to be a good father to his children and he did his best to fulfill their needs. Steven was blessed with two children, James Steven and Richard Gregory.
Fortunately, Steven enjoyed what he did for a living. Showing a strong work ethic, Steven worked diligently and did his best to succeed in his career. His primary occupation was a Terminal Manager. He was employed for 18 years in the Hotel Industry, 36 years in Tanker Trucks Industry 20 of which were working for Williams Tank Lines. Steven always sought to be a team player, doing what was necessary in order to get the job done.
Steven enjoyed his leisure time by taking part in various hobbies. His favorite pursuits were Model Trains and Railroad, Video Games and making Model Cars. He shared his interests with others.
Steven found pleasure in sports. In high school, Steven played Football and Basketball. Recreational sports included Bowling, Golf, Softball, Basketball and Skiing. Steven was also something of a sports fan and enjoyed following his favorite events whenever he had the chance to do so. Tops on his list were Football.
Throughout his life, Steven was a doer and was always actively involved in professional and community organizations. With his sons Steven was an active leader of the Boy Scouts of America.
Steven enjoyed traveling and time away on vacations. It was a chance for him to renew and relax, to visit new places and experience new things. Favorite vacations included many trips to Disneyland with family and friends. He always wanted to take a cruise to Alaska and he got to fulfill that desire in 2006.
Steven was a lover of animals and cherished his pets. One of his favorites was Rex a German Shepherd. They were best friends for 11 years. His family was rounded out by his two cats, Heidi and Tigger, and Rusty his dog.
He is survived by his wife Charlotte, sons James and Richard, brother John, Parents Shirley and Jim. Services were held at Palm Northwest Mortuary. Steven was laid to rest in Palm Northwest Cemetery.
Simply stated, Steven was a good and kind person, an individual who will for all time be remembered by his family and friends as being a caring and giving person, someone who was a vital part of their lives. Steven leaves behind him a legacy of life-long friendships and many cherished memories. Everyone whose life he touched will always remember Steven Lawrence Slagle.
