

Sylvia Marie Colbary, 89, passed away on July 25th, 2026 at UMC in Las Vegas. Born on July 20th, 1937 in Jamestown, New York, she was the daughter of James William Maybee and Helen Natalie (Morey) Maybee. When she was a young child, the family moved to California, where Sylvia later graduated from San Pedro High School and continued her education at Los Angeles Harbor College.
Sylvia worked for many years as a Certified Nursing Assistant, caring for others with patience and compassion. Later, she joined the staff at the Luxor Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas, where she worked until her retirement. Sylvia was known for her wicked sense of humor, her deep love of reading and word puzzles, and her lifelong appreciation for classical music, especially Baroque, which she cherished for its elegance and complexity. A creative soul, she painted, played the piano, and carried a gentle artistic spirit that touched everyone around her.
She was predeceased by her former husband, Richard Colbary, and by her brothers, William Maybee and Robert Maybee.
She is survived by her two daughters, Cheryl (Danny) Stockman and Diane (Troy Chance) Colbary.
She leaves behind five grandchildren: Michael Colbary, Andrea McLain, Patricia (Mike) Fouquet, Joseph (Cameron) Trupiano, and Ara Maybury.
She is also survived by eight great grandchildren: Bruce Colbary, Abigail Colbary, Temperance Colbary, Victor Colbary, Michael Dean Fennell, McKenzie Fennell, Jessica West, and Matthew West.
In addition, she has three great great grandchildren: Hunter Lee Larson, River Rose Larson, and Riley Farr.
She is survived as well by her sister, Lorna Falkenstein; her nephews John (Ginger) Falkenstein and Paul (Laura) Falkenstein; and her niece Angela (Frank) Conterno.
Interment will take place at Green Hills Memorial Park in Rancho Palos Verdes, California, with the date to be determined.
She will be dearly missed and forever loved.
