Thongsouk Singharath, lovingly known as Epa, Loung Souk, or I Souk, was born in Vientiane Laos. With a strong work ethic and determination, to provide for his parents ,11 siblings, and young growing family he pursued his education in Singapore, where he trained as a diesel mechanic, a profession he dedicated much of his life to. After graduating he worked for the American embassy in Laos.
With the difficulty decision wanting a better life for his family in 1979 with the little things that they could bring they fled in a small boat crossing over the Mekong river into Thailand as a refugee settling in Nong Kai refugee camp . After getting accepted by sponsors in 1980 the family relocated to San Antonio Texas where he and his family began a new chapter. After the birth of his youngest son, he moved his family to California, living in both Fresno and North Hollywood before settling in Las Vegas, Nevada, in 1993. There, he spent the rest of his life, working tirelessly to support his loved ones. Over the years, he took on various jobs, from working as a janitor in the school district to cleaning houses alongside his wife. No matter the task, he did whatever was necessary to provide for his family. Later in life, he found joy in repairing slot machines, working side by side with his wife and children.
Thongsouk was a man of unwavering dedication and quiet strength. He found comfort in the simple joys of life; relaxing at home, watching Thai TV and YouTube videos, savoring khao piak, and drinking Diet Coke. His fried eggs were legendary, a small but cherished tradition no one has been able to recreate quite the same way.
Above all, he found happiness in the presence of his family. His heart was fullest when his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren visited or called to check in. Though his words could sometimes be firm, they were always rooted in love and a deep desire to see his family succeed, reminding them to work hard, make a good living, and take care of one another, while scolding them to either stop drinking or smoking and reminding them that they were getting fat while also cooking for them.
In his final days, the love he had given throughout his life was returned to him, as his family came together to care for him.
He is survived by his wife Khamtiou, who he has been married to for over 50 years.
His children -Soulasack "Nout" (Sune), Soulasit "Thou/Oopa/Scott", Tiffani "Thang" (Robert), Phonsavanh "Pon" (Kelly), Philavanh "Hank/Phil" (Regina), and John.
