A vicarious lover of life with a bold spirit, Tivo Anthony Tortu, age 57, of Las Vegas, Nevada left this world on January 29, 2021. He was the son of Dino and Arline Tortu and was born in Camden, New Jersey on January 13, 1964. He passed away unexpectedly due to complications from surgery. He is preceded in death by his brother Nicholas. He is survived by both of his parents; his brothers Dino Jr. of Las Vegas, Anthony Tortu and girlfriend Ava of Las Vegas; his sister Lucia (Dan) Wiesner of De Pere, WI; and his niece Katie Wiesner. Tivo was especially close to his cousin Gracia Profaci (nee Avena) of Mount Laurel, New Jersey. Additionally, Tivo opened his heart to the family dogs; Parker, Bubba, Lulu, and Poncho.
He graduated Lely High School in Naples, FL and attended the college of Boca Raton.
His beautiful life will be forever cherished by those who knew him. He will be remembered as a true friend to so many people. He was always a man of taste and sophistication. His great sense of fashion served him when he lived and worked in New York City in the garment industry. He was very generous to many, often giving whatever he had to some poor soul whose path he crossed. His travels included skiing in the Rockies, road trips traveling in the US with his brother, a month in Greece with his sister, exploring Europe and Central America, and three weeks in Hawaii that by all accounts was the stuff of legends. Tivo was always surprising those around him with his diverse talents. During his sister’s wedding in 2015, and never having sung publicly, he did a rendition of ‘Make Someone Happy’ that would have made Jimmy Durante proud. Tivo was always fun to be around. His wit and ability to laugh at himself spoke to his humble and simple ways. He could make friends and would talk with anyone regardless of social status. He had many affections: The New Jersey shore, his zen garden, All-you-can-eat sushi, a love of sports, and his mother’s authentic Italian cooking. Tivo was especially devoted to his mother, who he loved dearly.
Tivo will remain in our hearts forever. We will miss his boisterous laugh, his never-give-into-the-status-quo, and unending love of family.
Thank you Tivo for taking us along for the ride.
