

Vernon B. Bostick, 99, passed away Dec. 26, 2013. He was born in Weston, Colo., Feb. 20, 1914, and has been a Las Vegas resident for over 50 years. Vernon received his BS in Ecology in 1936 and had careers in the U.S. Forest Service, ecology and range management consultant and radiation protection technologist at the Nevada Test Site from 1961, retiring in 1981. He continued his education and received his MS in biology from UNLV in 1973. After retiring, he was very active in local environmental and conservation issues including the development of the Wetlands Park where several of its key features are named in his honor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Maurine Elizabeth; brother, Clarence; sister, Anna; and stepdaughter, La Rue Gibbons. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth and Harry Bostick; and stepson, Darwin Bleak; 12 grandchildren; and 25 great-grandchildren. Viewing will be 4-7 p.m. Friday, Jan. 10, at Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, at Desert Spring United Methodist Church, 120 N. Pavilion Center Drive. Burial following at Memory Gardens Cemetery, 7251 W. Lone Mountain Road.
