On August 20, 1985, Deborah Taylor-Royal and Vernon Evans Sr gave birth to Vernon Evans Jr. on a little island called Galveston right off of the southern coast of Texas. Vernon Jr. was born into two families that loved him very much. One family mostly resided in Texas, and the other in California. Vernon lived the first few years of his life in Galveston with his mother and older brother Curtis.
Vernon would go on to begin his childhood education in East Palo Alto after relocating to California with his mother and older brother. Vernon was an exceptional student from an early age, excelled throughout his academic career, and never struggled at making friends at school. His vibrant and positive personality made it easy for him to connect with people, and he was always surrounded by friends and family.
Vernon Jr. maintained a long-distance relationship with his father at the early stages of his life and adolescence years. Summertime was the only opportunity for him to travel to Texas to spend time with family.
Vernon Jr. father passed away suddenly during a fatal accident working as a Longshoreman around the time Vernon was in middle school. That tragedy had a major impact of Vernon and the entire Evans family. Vernon Sr. was a dedicated father and a pillar in his community, spreading his love for the game of baseball by coaching little league baseball.
Vernon was able to overcome several life changing events and still maintain a strong academic standing all the way through high school. Vernon attended Milpitas high school where he continued his fathers love of baseball by joining the baseball team. Vernon loved sports and got along with everyone in high school, everyone loved Vernon.
Vernon graduated high school with above average grades, earning him a partial scholarship to a historical black university in New Orleans, Dillard University. This bold and courageous move across country to a foreign environment defined the spirit of Vernon Evans. From Dillard University he would eventually transfer to the University of Nevada, Reno. Along this journey, Vernon made countless amounts of friends and reconnected with distant relatives. He traveled out of country and domestically experiencing all of life’s joys.
Vernon seemed to really settle into his manhood and his confidence was booming when he moved to Las Vegas. In September of 2015, Vernon had his first and only son Jaylon Evans. Vernon spent everything he had in himself to be the best father he could be. He loved his son more than life itself.
On August 7, 2026, Vernon passed away while hiking in the Lake Mead National Recreation Area, accompanied by a close friend. The temperatures were well over 100 degrees when Vernon lost consciousness and overcome from over exposure to environmental heat. Vernon was on a mission to get in better shape and increase his physical fitness.
Vernon was a kind soul who’s passing will leave a void in the hearts of his siblings Curtis and Ebony, his son Jaylon, and his family and friends.
