Viran Gunawardena, 63 of Las Vegas passed away Thursday, October 18, 2012, surrounded by his loved ones. He was born January 25, 1949 to Edna and the late John Gunawardena. Viran worked as an Inventory Controller at the Flamingo for 35 years. He is the beloved husband of Ruanie and father of Shehan, Shanika, and Sajitha. He is the brother of Sweenitha (Ridgeway Weerackoon), Ranganie (late Dr. Sirimal Wickremesinghe), Sharmella (Thomas Kerbawy), Dayanganie Kestner, and Prasantha (Rosemarie Gunawardena). Viran has nieces and nephews as well as grand nieces and grand nephews. He is the son-in-law of Dr. Ivy Karunaratne and the late Dr. John Karunaratne, brother-in-law of Ianthie (Heshan Peiris) and Anomal (Tilanka Karunaratne). Visitation will be at 11:00am to 3:00pm, Sunday, October 21, 2012 at Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Service at St. Viator Catholic Community Church on Monday, October 22, 2012 at 10:00am. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the UNLV School of Hotel Administration.
