Virginia “Ginny” Kargard, 82, of Las Vegas, passed away on December 13, 2023 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s, Aphasia and finally COVID. She was surrounded at home by her loved ones at the time she passed.
Ginny was born to Ruth and Frederick Hollis, who predeceased her. She was also predeceased by her husband, Emil “Bud” and her brother Richard. She is survived by her daughter Deborah “Debbie” Honrath and husband Joe Honrath, her granddaughter Denise Castle and husband David Castle, grandson Nathaniel Green, and great-granddaughter Madison and great-grandson Bryson.
Ginny grew up in Southern California and spent much of her time on the beaches. She graduated from Millikan High School in Long Beach. Shortly after graduating, she met Bud, the love of her life. After spending time in Southern California, Bud, Ginny and Debbie moved to a 10-acre farm in the Boulder/Longmont area of Colorado near the Rocky Mountains. That clearly was the best time of her life! She and Bud literally built their home on their farm. She learned how to farm, grow produce, raise horses, cows, pigs, rabbits, chickens and ducks. She worked at the Lyons Post Office and Town Hall. She embraced and loved country living and filled her time with animals, gardening, refinishing old furniture, and country swing dancing. She loved Christmas and made home-made Christmas gifts for family and friends. Everyone awaited her holiday tin canister containing her special cookie cutter sour cream Christmas cookies.
After Debbie graduated from high school in Lyons, CO, Bud and Ginny decided to move to Las Vegas in 1981 after hearing it was an up-and-coming place to be. Shortly after moving here, both Ginny and Bud found employment at UNLV. Ginny worked in the Payroll Office and Bud in Purchasing as a typewriter technician and they retired in 1995.
After retiring, Ginny and Bud moved to Prescott and then Kingman, AZ. She loved gardening and searching for unique treasures to decorate her home, patio, and yards with. Wherever she lived, she filled her home with warmth and kindness. She always greeted everyone with a smile and a laugh that will always be missed.
The family requests that donations be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in lieu of flowers. Keep memories alive. Funeral arrangements will be private.
