

He was born in Moorhead, MN on July 4, 1948 to Victor and Maxine Schreiner. He graduated Moorhead High School in 1966.
His first two years of college were spent at Moorhead State University. In 1969 he enlisted into the US Air Force. He was an honor graduate at Sheppard AFB in TX in aircraft maintenance and served as an airplane mechanic/maintenance specialist. During the war he traveled to Germany, Korea, Japan, Thailand and The Philippines. He was stationed in Da Nang, Vietnam having attained the rank of staff sergeant and honorably discharged from active service in May 1973. He joined the Air National Guard once out of Vietnam, studying civil engineering and other career related courses and discharged in 1975. He then completed college in 1976 graduating with a B.A. after 2 years at North Dakota State University in architecture studies.
Wayne met Susan Molldrem in 1972 and they married on Sept 25, 1976 in Moorhead. The couple moved to Aberdeen, SD where they welcomed son, Christopher, in 1978. Wayne’s work brought the family to Casper, WY where they also welcomed a daughter, Jessica, in 1982. In 1986, Wayne took a position with Harris Sharp Associates in Las Vegas, NV where he worked on many local projects and eventually took on principal ownership of the firm, rebranded HSA Architects Inc. The firm dissolved in 2004, after which Wayne went to work for the State of Nevada as Chief of Design for the Public Works Board until his retirement in 2013.
His contributions to Las Vegas can still be seen all over the greater Las Vegas and Henderson areas; The DMV on West Flamingo, Las Vegas Fire and Rescue Headquarters downtown, the Black Mountain Recreation Center and Aquatic Complex, Whitney Ranch Recreation Center, Valley View Recreation Center, the (now) YMCA of Southern Nevada adjacent to the Durango Hills Golf Course, the Rainbow Library, Lied Senior Care Center, the Andre Agassi/Yvonne Atkinson Gates Early Child Development Center and numerous other recreation projects, school expansions/renovations.
He welcomed his grandson, Dylan, in 2012 who was adopted into the family in 2013. In his retirement, he enjoyed working in the yard and gardening, completing restoration of his 1963 MGB, going to the movies with the family and traveling with Sue. The two had just visited son Chris in Napa, CA and enjoyed time by the ocean and in the redwoods. He was also an avid Mustang fan following ownership of his 1969 Mach 1 428 Cobra Jet.
Wayne is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Maxine (Beggs), brothers Roger and Darrel. His legacy continues with wife Susan, children Jessi (Las Vegas, NV) and Christopher (Napa, CA) and grandson Dylan. He will be interred at the Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery on September 26, 2022.
An honor guard for Wayne will be held Monday, September 26, 2022 from 8:40 AM to 9:20 AM at Southern Nevada Veteran's Memorial Cemetery, 1900 Veteran's Memorial Drive, Boulder City, NV 89005.
