

Weldon Leon Simpson was born on December 28, 1923 at home in Elkville, Illinois. His parents were George and Ileta Simpson. Weldon was raised in Elkville, Illinois with his older sister, LaVerne, who he loved and admired. Weldon graduated from Elkville Community High School in 1942. He earned his Bachelor of Science from Southern Illinois University in 1949. His favorite courses were math. He earned enough advanced university hours to advance his career to qualify for his Masters degree if pursued. While growing up, some of his best friends were Herbert McCall, Roscoe Harkins, and Warren Williams. Later in life, he became friends with Ford C. and Dollie June, their three sons; Warren Williams, and Ron Caldwell and family. Weldon loved sharing life with people he knew. On February 25, 1951 Weldon exchanged wedding vows with Frances Marie Robertson at Berean Baptist Church of Chicago, Illinois. He was always sensitive to his wife's feelings, and that was especially true throughtout thier 61 years of marriage. His primary occupation was Procurement Analyst and Logistics Contract Negotiator. He was employed for over 33 years with the United States Government. Weldon was an Army veteran. He served in Guam and Okinawa during World War II. Through his hard work and dedication, he achieved the rank of First Sergeant. He received several awards including a Victory Ribbon, American Theater Ribbon, Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, and two Overseas Bars. Weldon passed away on October 1, 2012 at Summerlin Hospital, Las Vegas, Nevada. He battled diverticulitis with grace, patience, dignity, and a smile. He is survived by his wife, Frances; family and numerous friends. Services were held at Sun City Community Church in Las Vegas, Nevada. Weldon was laid to rest in Palm Northwest Cemetery in Las Vegas, Nevada.
