Wesley Charles Davis was born on August 3, 1940, in Rockville Centre, New York, to Charlie Mae and Charles Wilson. He was the youngest of two children and was raised in a loving home that helped shape his strong values and religious beliefs. Wesley was educated in the Rockville Centre, Long Island, school system and began his spiritual journey at Shiloh Baptist Church.
After graduating from high school, Wesley proudly enlisted in the United States Army, serving his country honorably in Korea with the 34th Infantry Division. Following his military service, he married the love of his life, Patricia Dangim, beginning a devoted partnership that would span 59 years. Together, they built a beautiful family and raised three children: Kimberly, Shawn, and Tanika. Wesley was a devoted father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle, cousin, trusted friend and mentor.
After returning to civilian life, Wesley began an extraordinary 40-year career with Grumman Aerospace Corporation as an engineer while attending New York Institute of Technology. Through determination and leadership, he became the first Black engineering manager to contribute to the historic Apollo 11 Moon Landing, which carried the first humans to the Moon in 1969. His professional accomplishments and awards opened doors for others and reflected his commitment to excellence and perseverance. Wesley retired from his aerospace career and relocated to Las Vegas, NV. He enjoyed an active retirement, spending his time golfing, swimming, playing pool, and horseback riding. Affectionately known as “Handyman II,” he loved repairing and building just about anything. He also enjoyed listening to jazz music and sharing special moments with family and friends.
Wesley lived a life grounded in service, wisdom, humility, and faith. Those who knew him admired his calm spirit and friendly smile. He carried himself with quiet strength, never seeking recognition, yet leaving a lasting impact on everyone around him.
To his family, Wesley was a steady source of love, support, and encouragement. As a husband, he demonstrated enduring devotion and partnership. As a father and grandfather, he taught by example, showing the importance of kindness, patience, hard work, and integrity. The life lessons and values he shared will continue through generations.
Wesley peacefully entered eternal rest on May 12, 2026, with his wife by his side. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing and loving him. He leaves to cherish his memory, his devoted wife of 59 years, Patricia Davis of Las Vegas, NV; his three children: Kimberly Davis of Orlando, Florida, Shawn Davis of Tampa, Florida, and Tanika Chukwumerije of Pearland, TX; five grandchildren: Rashaad Davis, Cheyenne Davis-Street, Austin Davis-Howard, Amara Chukwumerije, Arinze Chukwumerije; and one great-grandchild, Declan Street. He also leaves to mourn: cousins, Steven Williams, Freeport, NY; Nathan Haney and family, Charlotte, NC; Shannon Haney and family, Tampa, FL; and a host of other cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Charlie Mae and Charles Wilson, and his brother, Walter Davis, Sr. His legacy lives on in the strength he inspired in others, the wisdom he generously shared, and the love that continues to surround his family.
“A life of purpose leaves an imprint that time cannot erase.”
