passed peacefully on February 1, 2023 in Las Vegas, Nevada after suffering from a bilateral stroke July 27, 2022 while on vacation in South Dakota.
William was born on September 3, 1950 to William and Virginia Barry in Webster, South Dakota. Known as Bill to his friends, he credited many of his lifelong characteristics to his solid up bringing in the Midwest.
After attending South Dakota State University, Bill decided to follow in his dad’s footsteps. He moved to Las Vegas and pursued a career in the gaming industry. Bill was very charismatic and knowledgeable and worked his way up in the marketing field of which he was "one of the best." He retired at an early age so that he could spend more time at his cabin in South Dakota and helping others. Bill always said if he died the following day, his life was full and wonderful!
Bill loved the outdoors and was always engaged in some project. Bill wasn’t afraid of work and spent many hours trimming trees and bushes, mowing lawns, blowing leaves, building rock walls, painting pools, and detailing cars. He would often comment while on the yearly drive to South Dakota, what fun it would be to drive his mower over some of those rolling hills and of course follow up with his blower. Bill was well known for his endless hours of blowing leaves when the fall leaves were falling. He was guilty of being a perfectionist but was willing to put the time in to doing things the right way. Always by his side was his sister, Nancy. The two of them were amazing and able to accomplish whatever project was before them.
Bill was well versed on subjects he enjoyed and was never shy to speak up or voice an opinion. He loved a good debate, and especially enjoyed proving he was right.
He cherished his family and friends. He had an uncanny ability to connect with those he met. He often opened his home to those who would have celebrated holidays alone. While spending time in Webster, Bill would always lend a hand and enjoyed visiting older members of the community. He loved the warmth and friendliness of the small town and looked forward to his time at his cabin.
One of Bill’s endearing qualities was that he would step up and do positive things in his community and rarely took the credit deserved; whether it was purchasing and installing necessary plumbing in the church or landscaping the city owned medians. Bill was a kind and honest person who will be missed and remembered fondly by all whose lives he touched.
Bill is preceded in death by his parents, William and Virginia Barry, his sister, Nancy and his brother in laws, Ken Lowden and Roger Sannes.
Survived by his wife, Mary, his sister, Kathy, his children Terri, Pam (Bryan) and Bill III (Maria); his grandchildren and great grandchild, special nephews and niece and their families, his special friends Joe and Jan and the members of Mary's family who stepped in and cared for and supported both Bill and Mary through his journey.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Grace on Wings. They were the people with the air ambulance company and gave of their time to make it possible for Bill to return home to Las Vegas.
