Willie was Born July 31, 1939 to Willie E Drew Sr. And Mary Gross in Shelby, MS. He spent most of his childhood in Shelby with his mother, later moving to Oakland, CA to attend Oakland Technical High School. After graduating in 1957, he moved to Chicago and had a son named Darnell. Shortly after he met Bettie Jenkins a year later they married and moved to Oakland, CA where they got married, joined Seventh Avenue, and raised 3 children together, Jerome Drew(1965), Rodrick Drew(1973), and Erika Drew (1977).

After 40 years of marriage Bettie and Willie divorced. After their divorce, Willie retired from Matheson Trucking after driving trucks for over 20 years and dedicated all of his time to his growing family and the lord.

Taking on several roles at Seventh Avenue Baptist Church, Willie was in The Inspiration choir, he also sung with the men’s chorus (Wings over Jordan), he was a VP of the Trustee Board, and he was apart of the Treasury Board.

With everything Willie had to offer the world he will be truly missed. Cherishing his memory and left to carry on his legacy is his sister Bessie Hope, his 4 children Darnell, Jerome, Rodrick, and Erika, and his 8 grandchildren Darnell Jr, Ashley, Dejohn, Brettany, Armony, Jailah, Dakada, and Aiden. He also leaves to mourn his brother in law, nieces and nephews, cousins, lifelong friends and a host of many more.

A celebration of life for Willie will be held Friday, April 16, 2021 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Palm Cheyenne Mortuary, 7400 West Cheyenne Avenue, Las Vegas, NV 89129. A cremation will occur.

I’d like to send my Sincerest Condolences. Willie meant a lot to me an my Entire Family. I’ve spent many of nights at his house and it was always a honor and pleasure. Thank you Auntie Bettie, Erika, Roderick, and Jerome for sharing him with me. Uncle Willie I Love You and you will be Truly Truly Missed.
