Yvonne showered us with kindness and shared with us her love. She cherished every moment with the man who was her life (reunited with Edgar Woodford Wayland, Jr. who passed in 2017). Yvonne's love was made of deep devotion and sacrifice. It was endless, unselfish and enduring, for nothing can destroy it or take that love away. It was patient and forgiving. And it never failed or faltered. It believed beyond believing, and it grew with all the beauty of the brightest gems. It was far beyond defining, it defied all explanation, and it still remains a secret like the mysteries of creation.
Yvonne was born in New Kensington, PA and graduated from New Kensington High School in New Kensington, PA and attended the University of Pittsburgh. Yvonne graduated from Shadyside School of Nursing in Pittsburgh, PA where she was the Assistant Instructor and Supervisor in Nursing Arts. She embarked on her career in nursing at Shadyside Hospital (part of the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center today).
In 1957, Yvonne married her beloved Edgar Woodford Wayland, Jr., beginning a lifelong journey together. Their early years took them to Spokane, WA, and later to Longview, WA, where Yvonne served as the Inservice Education Director and a Clinical Instructor at Cowlitz General Hospital. Their path then led them to Chicago, IL; Richmond, VA; and eventually Buffalo, NY. From 1970 to 1975, the family lived in Cherry Hill, NJ, where Yvonne was the Assistant Director of Nursing and Inservice Education at the Mt. Holly Center. In 1976, they moved to Severna Park, MD (1976-1981), where Yvonne became the Inservice Education and Personnel Director at Harborview Nursing Home in Baltimore. The summer of 1981 brought a move to Charleston, WV, where Yvonne worked as a District Manager for Avon. After their time in West Virginia (1981-1986), Yvonne and Edgar spent three years in Lake Wylie, SC (1986-1989), followed by Hawthorne, NV (1989-1991). They eventually retired in Las Vegas, NV, with a brief return to West Virginia, and Yvonne made Summerlin, NV her home for the past 35 years. Throughout their lives, Yvonne and Edgar explored regions across the Americas, Asia, and Europe, though Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, always held a special place in Yvonne's heart.
Yvonne and her husband were charter members of the Mountain View Presbyterian Church in Summerlin, NV where she was a soloist and choir member for many years. She was also a member of The International Order of the Rainbow for Girls and a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years.
At Yvonne's request, no service was held. The family requests all memorial donations be made to Mountain View Presbyterian Church, 8601 Del Webb Blvd, Las Vegas, NV 89134.
Yvonne was one who never really grew old; her smile was made of sunshine, and her heart was solid gold. Nothing loved is ever lost and she was loved so much. While Yvonne may no longer be with us, her legacy of love, kindness, family, generosity, hope and strength will continue to echo through the lives she touched. Her memory will be carried on in our hearts. Mom, we love you deeply and miss you more than words can say.
