A Life Fully Lived
Ninety-four years of a life fully lived,
of a calloused old hand who gave all he could give.
Aldus Claude Myers Jr., outspoken and true,
who always stood firm in what he knew.
He championed the underdog, carried their weight,
a protector of those who were dealt a hard fate.
With the mind of an engineer, sharp and precise,
he could fix any engine or offer advice.
A mechanic, a farmer who enjoyed working the soil,
found his true peace in the grease and the toil.
Amid the hum of his tools and the sawdust in flight,
he turned simple wood into something just right.
With an Almanac close by, always within reach,
he gathered the facts and the wisdom they’d teach.
He had a soft place for the quiet and small,
his cats and his dogs, as you may recall.
Yet we know he was tough, stubborn and proud,
a man who refused to just blend with the crowd.
He passed down his strength; his legacy stands
in the family raised by his hardworking hands.
Through his namesake, his son, and Susan Alise,
and his grands and great grands, his nephews and nieces.
And beneath all the grit of a near-century’s stride,
was the profound devotion he carried inside
for his beautiful Alice, the love of his life, his anchor, his partner, his beloved wife.
The workshop is silent; the fields are at rest.
His work here is finished. He gave us his best.
