Heaven awaits, welcome home my dear Angelo. He passed away peacefully Tuesday December 15th, 2020, after a long battle with cancer since 2014. It was admirable, the strength and Faith that you showed until the end. With a heavy heart now we say goodbye, but take comfort in the thought that you are in a better place, healthy and at peace. We love you and will miss you always.
Angelo is survived by his wife Miriam, his son Angelo, his son's wife Dawn, his daughter Evelyn, his daughter's husband Eduardo, his other daughter Wendy, his godson Alexander, two beautiful grand-children D'Angelo and Luciana, and his brother Eddie Mercado and wife. I would also wish to take this time to thank some very special people that ended up joining our family and helped me so much. These people are Melissa, our nurse from Hospice that brought him such loving care and comfort, Donna, our CNA who not only helped me with his care but also shared her beautiful voice by singing to him, Cynthia, our Chaplain spiritual support, Barbara, our nurse practitioner, Chinwe, our social worker, and Deacon Pete, who not only brought us comunion but also bonded with Angelo over football.
A football athlete himself since high school and college, Angelo was a football fan, "go New York Giants". Later, he enjoyed weight lifting until he was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis. He was always an avid watch collector.
Born and raised in New York, after college he moved and enjoyed life in the beautiful island of Puerto Rico. Finally, 12 years ago, fate brought him to me in the Peach state.
Smart and educated with an MBA, he enjoyed life, music, and traveling. Now you fly up to Heaven where your mom and dad wait for you with open arms when St. Peter opens the Gates. We will miss you so much. Rest in peace dear Angelo, you earned it.
