Carl Jonathan Frank was born in Plainfield, New Jersey. He passed away February 6, 2025 in Duluth, Georgia. His son Tim was playing the Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young song “Teach your Children” on his phone while holding his Dad’s hand when he passed away.
Carl’s high school friends gave him the nickname “Quin” after the Bob Dylan song “Quinn the Eskimo.” He later also became known as “Captain Quin” when he was a fishing guide on Lake Lanier.
He grew up in Cranford, New Jersey. He graduated in 1971 from Staunton Military Academy in Staunton, Virginia, where he met Patti. He also attended Southern Tech and DeKalb Community colleges in Atlanta.
In his early twenties, he was a valued member of “The Home Juice Company Band” in Atlanta.
In later years, he played guitar and sang at Prince of Peace church with his dear friends. His musical talent was exceptional and he played his twelve string Martin guitar left-handed and upside down. He had a gift for writing and singing his beautiful songs. He did it all. He worked in the apartment industry for many years. He and his lifelong friend, Tim Hedquist, lived in a windmill on one of the properties that they transformed into livable space. “Captain Quin” followed his passion for fishing and became a well-known striped bass fishing guide on Lake Lanier, Georgia. His friendly nature worked well in sharing his enthusiasm and skills with his patrons. He penned a book about the subtle changes in the lake and organized other advocates into a group for the benefit of the lake. Carl will also be remembered for the elaborate birthday themed parties that Patti and he had for Tim and friends. Friends and family have treasured memories of him dressed up as a variety of characters such as a pirate, “Unga Bonga Bonehead” and even Batman. Carl decorated his fishing boat as the Batmobile and Batman arrived by boat for a birthday party for the DeBlasio family.
Carl began studying the Bible with Jehovah’s Witnesses a few years ago. He was very faithful and loved to share information regarding Jehovah's Witnesses. Carl enjoyed attending frequent Bible studies with Lowell Quasny. He also went to meetings at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witnesses in Lawrenceville, Georgia.
He is predeceased by his wonderful parents Helen and Herb Frank.
Carl is survived by his beloved son Timothy William Jacob Frank and Tim’s fiancé Marilyn Chen and Patti Rogers Frank, the love of his life. He is also survived by his cherished sisters Susan Frank, Laura Hildreth and Martha Dryer and her husband John. He is also survived by his nephews and nieces Sam Newman, Mara Newman, Evan Harse, Matthew Harse, Jessica Dreyer and Abigail Brady and numerous loving and caring cousins. He is also survived by his lifelong friends Tim Hedquist, George Bell and Stephan DeBlasio.
Special thank you to Lowell and Sugar Quasny, his treasured friends and Angel Dr. Jan Fitzgerald Soapes, his precious first cousin and Sabina, his caregiver, that helped him so much during his illness with COPD. Thank you also to Donald Hanbury, Tim Hedquist and Tim Fitzgerald for helping him when he was so sick. Thank you to Amedisys Hospice.
