

Elaine grew up in Baltimore, Maryland, was educated in parochial schools, and graduated from Seton High School in June of 1952. The following September, she entered the Mercy Hospital School of Nursing in Baltimore. In her senior year of training, she met John Fredrick Luthy of Holland, Ohio. After graduation from nursing school in September 1955 she passed her Nursing State Board Examination and became a Registered Nurse.
The following January, Elaine and John were married in the Chapel at Fort Holabird, Baltimore, Maryland. During the year they remained in Maryland, Elaine was employed as a staff nurse at Union Memorial Hospital, then later as a nurse in the Outpatient Dental Clinic at Johns Hopkins Hospital.
In January of 1957 she and John left Maryland to begin civilian life in Toledo, Ohio. They lived in several Ohio cities over a period of six years before leaving Ohio for Marietta, Georgia and John’s employment with Lockheed-Georgia Company. Their children, Sharon Lynn and Kyle Steven, were both born during their stay in Bellevue, Ohio.
Elaine worked part time over many years for the Cobb County, Georgia Health Department as a nurse until her retirement in about 1998.
Elaine thoroughly enjoyed sending cards for various occasions with personal notes to both friends and family. Her sister, Lynn Beran of Mundelein, Illinois fondly referred to her as “Miss Hallmark”.
Elaine and her family have been members of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church since 1974. She was active with the Evangelism Committee, as a Greeter, and with the Altar Guild for about 22 years.
Elaine is survived by her husband John Fredrick Luthy; locally by daughter Sharon Lynn (Luthy) McElhaney, Sharon’s husband Dennis and their daughter Kinsey Elise of Roswell, Georgia; and by son Kyle Steven Luthy of Chattanooga, Tennessee, and his son Tyler Steven Luthy of Ringgold, Georgia. She is also survived by sister Lynn (Drenning) Beran, Mundelein, Illinois; brother John R. Drenning, Boynton Beach, Florida; and sister Janet (Drenning) Vander Vliet and husband Ron of Sun City, California; and by sister-in-law Lois (Luthy) Hutchison of Auburn, Indiana. Elaine has many other family members living in Maryland, Ohio, Michigan, Indiana, Illinois and California.
