Retired from the Atlanta Public School System, her career spanned 25 years as a high school English teacher and department chairman. Before taking early retirement in 1981, she was chosen Star Teacher five times, voted Teacher of the Year for the City of Atlanta in 1989 and names semi-finalist for Teach of the Year for the state of GA in 1980.
She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in English from the University of Georgia, her Masters degree from Emory University and T-6 Specialist degree in English Education from the University of Georgia.
Throughout her teaching career and after her retirement, she corresponded with many of her former students, both in the United States and in Europe. She valued each student as a special gift from God and encouraged each one "to let his reach exceed his grasps" in every area of life.
There are no living survivors. The body will be cremated and no service planned.
