Frank Albert Prager Jr., 97, cherished husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many, passed away on Tuesday, November 11, 2025 in Buford, Georgia. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years and love of his life Nancy Clites Prager, and his grandson, Lee Thomas Woodall V.
Frank was born on March 10, 1928 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He was a graduate of Shaler High School, where he and Nancy, "Harry and Squirrel", first became a couple and they never looked back. Frank proudly served in the United States Army during World War II after which he and Nancy were married. Taking advantage of the G.I. Bill, he earned his degree in Industrial Relations and Accounting at The University of Pittsburgh. Frank enjoyed a successful career with firms in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Toledo, Ohio and Cleveland, Ohio, which culminated in his favorite role at GE Lighting Business Group where he was an EDI pioneer and leader. He retired in 1990 with high recognition for his achievements and impact to this business unit. Outside of his professional life, Frank was always an active leader in his local neighborhood and community. This included serving as city council president while a resident of Mayfield Village, Ohio.
He also enjoyed a lifelong hobby as an amateur radio operator and was best known by not only his call letters, W8CXU, but for his gift as a communicator with his perfect "radio" voice, delivery, and topical, thoughtful content. Frank was a leader of more "nets" than can be counted and made a multitude of friends, not just acquaintances, in the process which he so enjoyed throughout his life.
His three children were the luckiest daughters in the world to have him as their father. What a privilege to have "Dad" as their own - they couldn't be prouder of the man he was. He embraced and epitomized the meaning of "the glass is full and getting fuller" in all aspects of his life (which surely contributed to his longevity!) and coupled with his devotion to his family, made him the best father and husband anyone could have. His grandchildren and great grandchildren also benefited from his example of how to live life. They meant so much to him and after relocating to Georgia with Nancy, "Grandpa" thoroughly enjoyed an active presence in their lives.
In all honesty, Frank never met a stranger and genuinely cared about those he encountered, always taking time to learn about who they were and how they were doing. The age and background of the people he met never mattered and his friends valued him dearly.
Frank loved, loved, loved music and his home was always filled with music - predominately from Broadway musicals and jazz artists. This passion was instilled in his daughters when they were young, and lives on in them. His enthusiasm for playing and watching sports also became a big
part of his girls' lives at an early age. He attended many concerts and games with Nancy, their children and grandchildren and watched countless hours of football, baseball, and golf as a devoted fan of THE Ohio State Buckeyes, The UCONN Huskies, The Atlanta Braves, and the PGA. The Golden Bear, Jack Nicklaus, was his all time favorite.
It's only fitting he left us on Veterans Day as Frank was a true patriot. He loved and cared about our country deeply.
In the end, his vital organs fell outside of their warranty and could not be repaired. The exception was his brain as demonstrated by his extraordinary cognition, knowledge, and interest in current events that lasted until his final days. He was a truly remarkable man in every aspect of his life and his lifelong "gifts" to us all will remain forever.
He is survived by his daughters and sons in-law Linda and Roger Bernier, Laura and George Shaw, and Lesli and Tom Woodall, grandchildren and their spouses Michael and Olivia Shaw, Kylie Woodall and Dan Kirslis, and Lindsey and Kieran Williams, and great grandchildren; Abigail, Joanna and Rebekah Shaw, Madelyn Henderson and Murphy Williams.
Frank's remains will be interred at the Georgia National Cemetery in Canton, Georgia next to his beloved Nancy on March 10t, 2026 at 1:30 pm. We will honor and celebrate Frank's life on what would have been his 98th birthday.
