One of my last visits with Uncle Johnny  and Marie.  


This is my Uncle Johnny   He was moms oldest brother.  I remember as a child walking in his garden with him and picking pizza tomatoes, as he called them.   My uncle was a WWII veteran and a minister.   While I don’t know much about his service days, I do remember he would hold tent revivals under a tent at his home and he would minister to those in prison.   I know he shared with many people about the love of Christ.  
He will be missed.  

Our Uncle Johnny:  That is all we knew him by.  He was my dad's closest friend in young adulthood and he was always ready with a story.  Fresh out of the military, my dad told of many times that he and Uncle Johnny got into trouble.  You would never guess these two would both be called to the ministry.  Those that only knew him after his calling to the ministry, were deprived of his sense of humor.  Uncle Johnny spent his later decades of his life sharing the gospel with inmates and persons less fortunate than him.
As a young child, I would be spellbound with his stories.  The one I remember the most is of his hunting grizzlies in Alaska.  He even told me that he would take me there sometime. I would have believed most anything he told me. I now question whether he ever hunted bears, much less a grizzle in Alaska, but it really doesn't matter.
He was a member of that "greatest generation" that continues to vanish.  A member of the generation that went to war and made our country the great place it is today. 
Rest in peace Uncle Johnny and I hope somewhere in heaven you can meet that grizzle you always wanted to hunt.
