December 1952-December 25, 2020
Norman Ray Lee, Jr. of Jefferson, Georgia died at the age of 68. Born in Beaumont, Texas, in 1952, to Norman Ray Lee, Sr. and Nell Edna Ray Lee, Norman spent his grade school years in Lake Charles and Baton Rouge Louisiana, where he graduated from Broadmore High School in 1970. He then entered into the Air Force where he was trained as a Weapons Radar Mechanic for the F4 Aircraft. During his four years of service, he spent one year based in Thailand where he obtained the rank of Sergeant during the Vietnam War. After deployment, Norm attended Lamar University in Beaumont, obtaining his degree in Electrical Engineering. During his time at Lamar University, he met and married his first love, Alice “Sue” Nycum Lee. During their 23 years of marriage, they had many adventures including the births of three children, moving to Maryland, then Louisiana, and finally settling in Lilburn, Ga. In his spare time, Norm received a master’s degree in Electrical Engineering at LSU, and later, a master’s degree in Statistics from Mercer University. They were active in Harmony Grove UMC, the Parkview High School Booster Club, and their children’s various sports and activities. After Sue’s death in 1999, Norm found his second and third loves in Ballroom Dancing and Renee Gilbert. After meeting during a ballroom dancing class, they were married in 2002. After moving to Raleigh, NC for a short time, the pull of grandchildren brought them back to Georgia. Norm and Renee lived in Marietta until Renee’s passing in 2011. Norm moved to Jefferson in 2014 in order to be closer to his kids and grandkids.
On a professional note, Norm worked for several Electrical Memberships including Cajun Electric, Oglethorpe Power, and North Caroline EMC and consulted for ABB, Inc. Norm’s proudest memory was working on the wiring systems for the space shuttle program while employed at Westinghouse early in his career.
Norm was also known for the unique quality of studying Statistics and Applied Physics for fun. He was an avid learner and seeker of knowledge. Because of his love for knowledge, Norm found a passion for teaching, too. He taught Applied Statistics for Keller School of Management in the late 90’s and early 2000’s. Norm was happiest with anything involving Disney or Star Wars. He loved seeing his children and grandchildren experience Walt Disney World and could always be found in his favorite spot in EPCOT when visiting.
Norm is survived by his three sons Jeremy (Erin) Lee, Tim (Kimberly) Lee, and Dan; his six grandchildren Abigail, Garrison, Jeremiah, Madeline, Payton and Kaden; his sister Rebecca (Bill) Adams of Missouri City, Texas, and numerous cousins, nieces and nephews, as well as in-laws whom he considered family.
In remembrance of Norm’s life, the family asks that any charitable donations be made to Celebration Church in Hoschton, GA or Lebanon UMC in Gillsville, GA.
A graveside ceremony will be held December 30, in Lilburn, Georgia.
