Bob was a Korean War Veteran, honorably serving in the Army (1951-1953). Bob spent nearly 13 months of front-line duty helping to restore peace to North and South Korea’s unrest. Bob started out as a Private and by the time he left Korea, attained the rank of Master Sergeant earning both a Combat Infantry Badge and honored with The Bronze Star. Additionally, Bob was very proud of being baptized in a bunker on the battlefield.
In order to support his family of 6, he worked his way up from helping his father with his tomato business to creating or managing many other businesses including restaurants, building contracting, and corporate franchises.
Bob had a keen sense of humor and was fiercely motivated and dedicated to any task he took on. He loved to tell stories and make people laugh. He was the life of the party and passed on much of his humor to his children. He taught them all the value of a dollar and the secrets to success including always having a good work ethic. Bob enjoyed sharing his guidance and wisdom gained over almost a century, with his four children, five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Many of their life lessons came from him like “measure twice, cut once” and “get busy and stop admiring your work!”.
Bob’s biggest passion was his work with The Korean War Veterans Association. He loved helping war veterans of all ages and all wars. He enjoyed educating students on “The Forgotten War” in which he fought. He was a part of the initiative “Tell America”. The program provides a basic curriculum so that schools can make “The Forgotten War” unforgettable.
Bob lived his life under the Rotary Club International’s “Four Way Test” guiding him and his family to be ethical and honest in all facets of life. Bob was very active in community service and charitable events over decades as an active member of Rotary. He served as President of the Bethpage, NY club.
Bob married Dolores Moore in 1952. Their Wedding Invitation never had a date on it because he was in basic training and he would never know when he would get a pass to go home. They’ve enjoyed over 70 years together in Love and Marriage.
Bob was preceded in death by his sister Marilyn (Siggins). He is survived by his wife Dolores Moore; daughters, Patricia Ariotti (husband Steve), and Carol Winstead (husband Bob); sons, Robert J. Moore (wife Alice), and Steven Moore; and grandchildren, Kristen Vener (husband Ken), Daniel Winstead (wife Sarah), Jonathan Winstead (fiancée Jessie), Jaime Moore, and Morgan Moore; and great grandchildren, Evelyn and Simone Vener.
