

A viewing and prayer will be held from 1:00-3:00 pm, Thursday, May 25 at Advantage Funeral & Cremation Services, 500 Harbins Road, Lilburn, GA 30047. Burial will be Friday, May 26 at 9:30 am at Georgia National Cemetery, Scott Hudgens Drive, Canton, GA 30114.
Bob was born November 2, 1944 in Spartenburg, South Carolina to James and Helen (Funchess) Motley. After high school, Bob served in the US Navy during the Vietnam conflict. Upon his return, he attended Auburn University with a baseball scholarship as a starting pitcher. After graduation, he began a career in the hotel business based out of Houston, Texas. Shortly after, he transferred to Cedar Rapids, Iowa to open a Stouffers Hotel and met his wife of 31 years, Julie, while shopping for furniture. Many moves followed including to Atlanta, GA where son Jake was born and to Wichita, Kansas where daughter Sarah was born. Bob eventually settled for 15 years south of Boston, in Cohasset, where he founded a hotel group reservation system called Passkey. Not one to stay idle, he took on the challenge of opening a restaurant in Charleston, South Carolina where he met his girlfriend, Nancy. Upon retirement, Bob and Nancy moved to Smyrna, Georgia where they have resided for the past seven years.
Bob is survived by his two children, Jacob Pendleton Motley and his fiancé Jen of Malvern, PA and Sarah Amanda Motley of Silver Spring, MD, two grandchildren, Brielle and Jacob Jr “JJ”. He was preceded in death by his parents, James and Helen, as well as his brother Jimmy.
